skidmoreowingsmerrill The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati recently opened its new Joint and Spine Center, its design focused as much on improving the patient experience as on expanding the facilities themselves. Its exterior is constructed of red brick and limestone, making it consistent with the aesthetic of the rest of the campus, though its style has been updated on both the exterior and in the interior of the building. Private patient rooms (of which the new center adds around 90) overlook the campus through floor-to-ceiling windows, as do common spaces; the idea here is to make natural light a significant part of the healing process by creating a sense of openness throughout the facility. The rooms themselves are serene and simple, and softly lit by elongated light fixtures affixed to wood-paneled walls.
